A vehicle used to transport the sick or injured to and from a place of treatment is called an ambulance. It also provides emergency medical care to patients. Ambulances were first introduced by the Knights of St John in Europe. Ambulances offer a number of services. They provide emergency care to the ill and injured. They transport patients for medical treatment to and from a hospital. They may reach an acutely ill person to a hospital. Though commonly ambulances refer to motor vehicles, trucks, station wagons and vans are also used as ambulances. Aircrafts, helicopters, boats and ships too provide these same emergency cares and are also known by the same term ‘ambulance’.
