This is from a perspective from my experience running a San Diego auto repair company.The two things I want to take a look at is your safety and the overall health of your car.
So when it comes to safety you can put all types of maintenance as being critical to safety. But one part of your car is really important to your safety. That part is your brakes.With automobiles going much faster than they used to, good brakes are a must. With more and more people having so many distractions good brakes are a must.By taking the proper steps to care for them you will always have the ability to brake in time.Brakes that you make sure are well maintained will save lives and save money. I have seen it first hand running a San Diego brakes shop.
In reference to keeping your car healthy the critical thing to remember is to keep your car maintained.Some of the crucial things you have to do is to make sure you always change the oil and get tune ups. By keeping your car’s oil maintained your car runs smoother and longer.By not making sure your oil is always changed you can end up ruining your engine.
Another important point you should remember to do is have regular tune ups done. If you do that you keep all your car’s major functions taken care of.By performing this step you will have a car that runs smoother and cleaner.If you are unable to do this your car will be running very badly.Some things that can happen when you don’t do that is a failed smog test. Most of the cars that fail in my San Diego smog check shop are the ones that didn’t take care of those things.
So in doing these few things what you accomplish is the safety of you and your loved ones and the safety of your car.

Posted on August 11th, 2009 No commentsToday many Americans are looking for ways to save money.With the current state of the economy who can blame them.They try to cut expenses any way possible.Possibly they might start to not go out as much.They aren’t going out and buying things of no use.But what I would like to look at is a way that you probably haven’t thought too much about. That way is in your car.
When a lot of people consider using their cars to save money they think of ways to use less gas. They think of ways they can spend less on gas.But what I would like to point out that if your car is properly cared for you will save more in the long run. I know this for a fact running my San Diego auto repair company.
With a lot of cars people in general don’t think of doing maintenance. Unfortunately, when they do find themselves thinking about it, it is because it is too late.They wait for the inevitable part breaking down or something going wrong.But from what I have witnessed doing this and waiting ends up making the auto repair expenses more costly.
Take your brakes for instance.If you do proper maintenance with your brakes you are able to avoid expensive repairs. If you don’t you can have expensive discs you have to repair.Or you might find the need to have the brake shoes replaced. By properly using your brakes and maintaining them you can save money. So take it in to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop and you can find out if you need to do anything. Thinks like making sure it has enough brake fluid.
Or a lot of people won’t take their cars for tuneups.They disregard the engine’s maintenance.They do not do an oil change as frequently as they should. This leads to your cars engine running bad. Posted on August 4th, 2009 No commentsIt is a brand new time period.The economy is now considerably different.With it, most Americans have less spending money today as they did before.In regards to the auto industry you are able to witness it.With the big three carmakers always losing money, you have proof that big items just aren’t being bought as much as before.
With that as a thought, a lot of Americans will be forced into having to keep their car a much longer times.When you do keep your car much longer it will need more maintenance. The better you can take care of your car the longer it will last. So I would like to offer a couple of tips from my experience owning a San Diego auto repair company.
One of the items that is easily overlooked is keeping your car running clean. Why is this important?Because if you aren’t able to keep it running clean you are in danger of failing the smog check.If you are not able to pass a smog check this could lead to very expensive repairs. I have seen this time and time again from doing smog test San Diego.
All you really need to do is to be sure that you change the oil on a regular schedule.Als be positive that it is tuned up for all the regular tune ups.
Second thing overlooked is brakes.You don’t really watch for it as much as you should.But everybody is positive that it is critical for safety. Be sure that when you are braking that you do not be too rough on them. Be prepared for all your stops and then apply the brakes slowly.Also be sure there is enough bake fluids.This can help you save a bunch of money in repairs.

So I would like to offer some perspective from a San Diego auto repair shop owner.Now you may be thinking that I would be biased but listen to me first. After reading you should see that it makes sense and can save you money.
One of the tips on saving money is by making sure we are able to keep our cars for longer periods of time. In the height of this boom economy when everybody was benefiting people would just trade their cars all over the place. They traded in the cars when they got old.So for the most part people just did not even think about having to maintain their car.
Well in the economy we are in that is not a luxury anymore. Most people can’t afford to just go out and get a new car.People now must keep the old ones longer. What that means is they will have to maintain their cars.

Why You Should Maintain Your Brakes

But if you really thought about it, your life is on the line everytime you drive a car.Whether it is your fault or someone else's, accidents happen.
One of the causes of accidents, although rare, is brake failure. Your brakes are one of the most important parts of your vehicle. Unfortunately, out of sight is out of mind. I have seen this firsthand with my San Diego brakes shop.
Your brakes qualifies definitely as being out of sight. But it is one part of your car that you need to keep regular maintenance on. Whether you do it yourself, or hire a San Diego auto repair shop, you have to maintain it. After all, your life and maybe even your family's safety depends upon it.
With that being the case, it will be relatively easy to maintain your brakes.You can do one of two things, you can take it to a brake repair shop or you can learn how to maintain it yourself.
Either way, the two main things you need to look at are the brake fluid level and the brake pad condition. If you are diligent in maintaining these two points, you will keep your brakes safe.
When you go to check the brake fluid level, all you are going to have to do is check the fluid reservoir level. It is usually marked and has a 'min' line and a 'max' line.Make sure that the fluids are not below the 'min' line and you will not have any problems.
Also be sure that you see that the brake fluid is yellow in color and clear. If it is not, you will have to flush the brakes and replace it with new fluid.
Brake fluids maintenance are the easy part.The difficult part is maintaining your brake pads. For this, more often than not you will need a brakes repair company like my San Diego brake shop.
Usually the brake pads tell you they need to be replaced when you hear some screeching sounds when you are braking.
If so, get them checked and if need be, replaced as soon as you can. Worn brake pads make it difficult to control to a stop.
With your safety and your passenger's safety directly effected, this is a no brainer. Get it checked and if you have to, go and get your brakes fixed.

When to Replace Brakes
Posted on June 15th, 2009 No commentsThere are parts to your car that you need to keep aware of. In this day and age of cars having everything automated, a lot of times maintenance of your car gets neglected. Believe me I have seen it all owning a San Diego auto repair shop.
After all cars that were considered economic cars like Hyundai’s, are now state of the art machines, it’s not that hard to think nothing goes wrong.
That is a big mistake. There are still going to be parts of your car that need to be paid attention to and maintained. Most people do pay attention to things like oil changes. Although that is important for the life of your car, what most people neglect is their brakes. Which is of extreme importance to their life and their family’s lives.
So let’s take a look at your brakes and knowing when it is time to change them because they have become unsafe.
First symptom of brakes that need to be changed are when they are grinding or scratching. Usually this is an indicator that the metal plate that holds the brake pad is gone and now you have it rubbing against the rotor. This is a bad sign and you have to go and replace your brakes immediately.
Second thing you can look for is high pitch noises your brakes make or a loud screeching. A condition called glazed is what causes this. This happens when a person constantly does excessive braking causing the rotors to get too hot. The rotors then are burned.
You fix this by going to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop.
A third condition that happens to your brakes is vibrations. If your drums and rotors are warped, there will be a vibration when you brake. This happens when too much heat cause them to lose their shape. When this happens, your rotor needs to be replaced.
A final issue to examine is when your brakes are pullling. When you are braking, what will happen is your vehicle is pulled in one direction. This happens when your brakes caliper is not getting applied evenly. This happens due to a fluid leak. To find out which side is leaking, you are going to need a mechanic to take a look at it. How you fix this is by replacing the caliper removing all the air out of the brakes.
