Reasons Drivers Take Out Car Insurance For A Short Period Of Time
Most car insurance policies are still sold for 1 year. However, to meet the flexible needs of modern driving, temporary insurance is now available for shorter periods of time.
Temp auto insurance is often referred to as policies ranging from 1 to 28 days. However, now a few different insurance providers offer flexible cover for between 1 to 6 months.
Flexible policies for one month or more are even available for drivers on a pay as you go basis. This gives the benefit of being able to switch cover on and off for periods when it will not be required.
There are many scenarios where 6 month car insurance may be appropriate. One is making sure you are adequately covered when using a friends car. Although you may be able to drive another vehicle on your annual policy, taking out an additional policy for this could protect any No Claims Discount built up. This could be a good option for careful drivers.
Another reason temp motor insurance is taken out is to provide insurance for an additional driver so driving can be shared on a longer trip or vacation.
Providing temp insurance cover for a foreign visitor is a situation where short term cover may be required. As is requiring 24 hour insurance when driving home a recently purchased new or 2nd hand automobile. Taking a car test drive and requiring cover for a day or weekend can be another reason.
Several of us who drive a van, won’t actually own it. This can be where van insurance for 6 months is required, when you are borrowing a van for a range of situations.
For those bikers that are attending a biking convention or other meet-up for riders, 6 months bike insurance could be useful if the motorbike you are riding is not one you use regularly. This may prove economical if they will only be riding while they are away and usually drive their car when at home.
